The Ministry of Public Infrastructure is complaining that power cables used for streetlights in Demerara are being stolen.
According to the ministry, it has noticed the theft of Triplex Distribution Cables in several communities.
“These cables are used to provide electrical power to the highway lights installed along the designated highways with the intent of promoting safe mobility for all categories of road users.” Among the areas affected were: on the West Coast Demerara – Leonora; Meten-Meer-Zorg; De Kinderen and Belle Vue at West Bank Demerara. On the East Bank Demerara, the incidents occurred at Coverden and Land of Canaan, as well as areas on the East Coast of Demerara.
“The Ministry pleads with the public to contact the nearest police station or the Public Relations Officer on 592-227-0799/592-614-3069 to report all suspicious activities.”
