Come Monday, murder accused Tyrone Rowe, also known as ‘Cobra’, will face a second trial over the August, 2010 murder of Tyrone Collymore, who was shot by gunmen.
Rowe, who is about 25 years of age, and formerly of Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, was arraigned yesterday before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the High Court in Georgetown.
During that time, a 12-member mixed jury was empanelled to consider the evidence to be led in his trial.
It is alleged that on August 5, 2010, at Plaisance, East Bank Demerara, Rowe murdered Collymore. The murder accused has retained the services of Attorney-at-law George Thomas.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Lisa Cave is presenting the State’s case. Following the murder charge, in 2013, Rowe who was 20, was convicted for the crime.
He was sentenced to 78 years’ imprisonment.
Thereafter, through his lawyer, he appealed the sentence and conviction. In July, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction and sentence, and remitted the case to the High Court for a new trial.
According to reports, Collymore was declared clinically dead by doctors after he was shot to the head by gunmen while standing outside a Plaisance, East Coast Demerara business place.
Collymore was in the company of two other men, who were also shot and robbed of cash and a quantity of jewellery. Collymore succumbed to his injuries two days later, after being removed from life support.
Rowe was just 17, when he allegedly committed the crime.
