Realino Santiago, 71, was yesterday struck down and killed by motorcar PVV 982.
Santiago was a security guard who lived at Lot 1 Public Road, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara. Police reports indicate that he was crossing the road early yesterday morning when he collided with the car.
Footage from a nearby security camera shows Santiago suddenly dashing out on to the road. The driver swerved to avoid an accident but failed. The impact sent the pedestrian into the air.
Santiago was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
The driver, who rushed Santiago to the hospital after the collision, is 21, and is a resident of Anna Catherina, WCD. He reportedly passed the breathalyzer test and is currently in police custody assisting police with the investigation.
Santiago’s body is currently being held at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post mortem.
