Last weekend, the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) invited residents of the eight constituencies in Linden to vote for their preferred candidates for the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGEs). These primaries I must say are the way to go and must be commended.
However, the successful staging reported by the Guyana Chronicle seems to be a little far-fetched since many residents are left disappointed that their preferred candidates in some constituencies were shafted.
As a returning Guyanese from West Watooka, I was really energized to support the winning candidate of constituency 5, which had sitting Mayor of Linden Waneka Arrindell and vibrant community lady Andrea Dover-Roberts facing off. However, many persons from the West Watooka area who are ardent supporters of the APNU are now ‘licking salt’.
An entire list with persons from our area who were ready to support Roberts went missing since the day before the elections. Yet minutes before the vote, we learnt that an individual claimed that she saw the said list in a different constituency and put it away. This fish-smelling excuse could have been corrected simply by delaying the vote for a few minutes to get the list in fairness to all or to sort it out way before. It was chaos, there was no smooth running off, it was a smooth slight of a people seeking to elect someone they can confidently support in the elections. Much more disheartening, was that Linden’s MP, Figueira who was the returning officer and he should have ensured no skullduggery, but he let it pass without seeing the people as the bigger picture more than an embarrassment to the Mayor.
On this note, may I say that Mayor Arrindell has done nothing for Linden since assuming office much less our constituency! All we are hearing is that she is overseas and out of town and to cap it off, she is never present in our communities and persons prefer someone who will truly represent their interest instead of a show.
It is my utter feeling that the new Region 10 Campaign Manager, Minister Valarie Patterson-Yearwood should see it fit to have a re-run of the Constituency 5 primaries since it seemed to have been very unfair and discouraging to persons now interested in running for local elected office. I call for an investigation of the constituency 4 and 7 constituency primaries as well which had the involvement of Ms. Primo.
Yours respectfully,
Robert Wallace West Watooka Constituency 5

(Kaieteur News) – There is no question that Guyanese would have noticed the brooch worn by Delcy Rodríguez during her recent visits to Grenada and Barbados.
