Seaboard Overseas Trading Group makes sizeable donation to Rehab Centre

Seaboard Overseas Trading Group donated the sum of US$5,000 (approximately G$1,030,000) to the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre (PRRC) last Wednesday.
The Seaboard Overseas Trading Group is the parent company of Namilco (National Milling Company of Guyana Inc.), the producers of Thunderbolt flour, the Maid Marian range of fine flours, convenient quick mixes and health products.
The mission of the Seaboard Overseas Trading Group (SOTG) includes the promotion of health, development and education of children and women, assisting programs dedicated to improving public health, eliminating hunger and promoting nutrition, developing sustainable agriculture and food production, and providing funding to other worthy causes.
The SOTG has donated to several organisations beginning in 2012, and selected the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre as its 2018 beneficiary.
Mr. Bert Sukhai, Managing Director of Namilco stated that, “the PRRC has a long and distinguished history of service, since its genesis as the Polio Rehabilitation Centre in 1967 and its expansion into a non-governmental agency providing a wide array of services to persons with disabilities”.
It was therefore the company’s desire to make, “a contribution to the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre to assist in the furtherance of the amazing work being done for children with physical and developmental disabilities, amputees and persons with hearing impairments”.
During the presentation ceremony, Ms. Cynthia Massay, Rehabilitation Officer of the PRRC expressed her sincere gratitude for the substantial donation.
While the Centre receives an annual government subvention for recurrent expenditures, it relies heavily on the contributions of donor organisations for the expansion of services, which go beyond meeting only the basic needs of clients.
Ms. Massay stated that the donation recognizes the PRRC’s efforts to provide the highest standards of rehabilitation care, and looks forward to continued partnership in the interest of enabling better opportunities and meaningful contributions in the lives of persons with disabilities.
