Hetymer’s magnificent 125,Holder’s last over lead Windies to final over win

Bangladesh threw away a match they should have won due to negativity in the middle overs as Windies won by four runs in the final over to keep the series alive as the team’s head to St Lucia for the final with ODI series level 1-all.
Chasing 272 to Bangladesh died a slow death of strangulation and could only reach 268-6.
On the same pitch that the Windies top order struggled to get the ball away, a magnificent 125 from 93 balls with three fours and seven sixes from 21-year-old left-handed Guyanese Shimron Hetymer, who shared in a 103-run fifth wicket stand with Rovman Powell who made 44 from 67 balls with four fours, did not go to waste.
No one else reached 30 as Chris Gayle with 29 from 38 balls with 3 fours and six and Shai Hope who struggled for 43 balls for his 25 were the only others to get into the teens as Windies were all out for 271 in 49.3 overs.
Pacers Rubel Hossain (3-61), Mustafiur Rahim (2-44) and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hassan (2-45) were the main wicket takers for Bangladesh who needed eight from the last over bowled by Skipper Jason Holder.
Tamim Iqbal (54), Shakib (56), Rahim (68) and Mahudallah (39) got starts but spin trio of Ashley Nurse (1-34 from 10), Devendra Bishoo (1-39 from 10) and Gayle (0-26 from 7) combined to suffocate the Asians.
Tamim Iqbal started the run chase like a house on fire and smashed Alzarri Joseph (1-55 from 6) for a blistering boundary, while Anamul Haque pulled him for another four before smashing Holder (1-66 from 10) for four and two sixes in the second over.
Joseph bowled Haque (23) in the third over as he charged the pacer before Tamim took two boundaries off Holder in the next over and when Shakib slapped Joseph to the point boundary they reached the fastest ODI fifty by Bangladesh in 4.4 overs.
Nurse was introduced to try to halt the massacre and his first ball was hit past cover for four by Tamim but the next balls were dot balls.
Two more boundaries in the next over by Shakib off Holder saw Bangladesh gallop to 71-1 off the sixth over.
Nurse stemmed the runs flow before Shakib cut Kemo Paul for four but Nurse and Paul bowling in tandem put the brakes on the free scoring.
Even Gayle had the batsmen under his wraps as the pair blocked and ran singles but they got themselves into a rot and Bishoo, introduced in the 25th over and Tamim, who reached his 42nd fifty, seemed intent on hitting him out of the attack, was stumped at 129-2 to end the 97-run stand.
Bishoo troubled the batsmen and had three appeals sent for reviews and all of a sudden the pitch looked like the Windies top order had batted on.
A boundary by Shakib off Holder brought up his 39th ODI fifty but Nurse was brought back and had him caught at point for 56 at 145-3 and the Windies were in the ascendency.
Nurse and Bishoo extracted turn but Gayle at slip dropped Mahmudullah off Bishoo as the required rate kept climbing. Mahmudullah (39) was run out at 232-4 in the 46th over and Babar Rahman (12) was removed by in the 49th over with 8 required.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and asked the Windies, who replaced Andre Russell with Guyanese Kemo Paul, to bat on a slow and low track in scorching heat.
Gayle pulled Mortaza for four before Evin Lewis hit off-spinner Mehidy Miraz for four over extra cover and before swiveling and

pulling Mortaza for six.
Gayle counter-attacked Miraz and clobbered him for consecutive boundaries; the second clearing the ropes at long-on before Lewis (12) was LBW to Mortaza at 29-1.
Hope eventually broke the shackles by sweeping Hossain for four after his first 16 balls produced just a single. Hope played a glorious cover drive off Rahman for four before Gayle missed a sweep to Hossain and was LBW at 55-2 in the 14th over after the 50 was posted from 71 balls.
Hetymer, from Cumberland in Canje, Berbice, joined Hope and the Bajan struggled to find the gaps and rotate the strike before patting a catch to cover off Shakib to leave the host on 77-3 in the 19th over.
Hetymer, Captain of the victorious 2016 U-19 World Cup side, swept Shakib for his first boundary to move into the 20s as the 100 was posted from 23 overs.
Jason Mohammed (12) got a beauty from Rubel which cut him in half as he edged it to the Keeper and Windies were 102-4.
Mohammed’s demise ended the fourth 20 plus stand before Powell and Hetymer changed that trend with positive batting and aggressive running.
A dismissive pull from Powell off Rubel got him going, while Hetymer pulled Shakib for four to go to 32 before a six off Mosaddek took him into the forties as their partnership began to flourish.
The 150 came up in the 34th before the 50-run fifth wicket stand was posted from 62 balls.
With the sunshine still streaming down from a blue sky on a day in which the forecast was for rain, a crowd smaller than the one on Sunday, watched as Hetymer reached his second consecutive ODI fifty from 54 balls with two fours and a six.
Both Hetymer and Powell seemed to be losing concentration as they tried to hit the ball too hard.
Jamaican Powell hammered Rahman for a couple of boundaries in the 40th over, as the pair upped the tempo.
Hetymer deposited Mortaza into the VIP stand and repeated the dose off Shakib in the next over while Powell missed an impetuous drive and was bowled by Rubel.
Hetymer lived dangerously and was dropped on the deep mid-wicket boundary with the ball going for six before dumping Shakib for six in the next over. Holder (7) lifted Shakib out of Providence but perished in the same over, stumped on 225-6 in the 46th over.
Nurse (3) played an irresponsible swipe at Rahman and was taken at third man, while Paul (4) who got off the mark with a boundary was soon sent packing by Rubel at 241-8, while Devendra Bishoo (0) was bowled by Rahman one run later.
Hetymer reached his second ODI ton and first on home soil from just 84 balls with three fours and four sixes and celebrated with two consecutive sixes off Rubel in the penultimate over.
Man-of-the-Match Hetymer was on fire and smashed Rahim into the mound in the last over before being run out two short of his 127 made in the World Cup qualifiers last March.
