Two years after police caught and charged the second suspect in the execution-style killing of a Mocha Arcadia mechanic, Terrence Lanferman, a man was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder. Lanferman was gunned down in his home on June 1, 2015 Sedley Liverpool called ‘Birdman’ is accused of the capital offence.
At the conclusion on the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) yesterday, Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore, ruled that there was sufficient evidence against the defendant, for him to stand trial before a judge and jury.
He will go on trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
The man was represented by Attorney-at-law Dexter Todd who had made a no case submission on his client’s behalf.
The lawyer had argued that there was no evidence to prove that his client committed the offence, since the prosecution case had too many loopholes and lack evidence.
According to information, Lanferman was reportedly shot twice, to his neck and chest. This allegedly stemmed from a dispute between him and another man.
Lanferman was found lying motionless with gunshot wounds to his body and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Liverpool’s cousin, Kenkassie Lynch, has already been committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder. Magistrate Azore had ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against him.
Lynch will go before a judge and jury at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
