The Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (GCUSA) in an effort to encourage young people to take up Umpiring, has organised a ‘Continuous Umpiring Education’ Session on June 24 which would be held at the Local Government Union Hall, Woolford Avenue, Georgetown from 10:00hrs to 14:00hrs.
The session is geared as a launch for the annual training programme for new umpires which is scheduled to commence next Tuesday as well as a forum for knowledge sharing among the present umpires and players; Captains are encouraged to attend.
Regional Cricket Umpires Shannon Crawford and Ryan Banwarie and Match Referee former Test player Reon King are the facilitators. At a time when persons can earn a comfortable standard of life from Umpiring, scoring and being a Match Referee, the public and especially aspiring young Umpires are encouraged to attend the workshop which is free.
One of the highlights of the day’s activity would be a feedback segment by King and Guyana Jaguar’s Captain Leon Johnson. Persons desirous of attending can contact Match Referee and President of GCUSA Arligh Rutherford on 622-6969.
