A repeated offender who was recently released from prison after serving a 24-month jail term was yesterday back before a City Magistrate, this time to answer to a robbery charge.
Twenty-four-year-old Junior Robertson, a porter of Port Kaituma, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The allegation against Robertson stated that between May 15 and May 16 at Water Front, Port Kaituma, in the North West Magisterial District, he stole four excavator bucket pins worth $304,000 and other articles valuing $819,000, property of Evel Rodrigues.
Robertson denied the allegation after it was read to him by the Magistrate.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the virtual complainant is a businessman and he sells mining parts.
The court heard that the defendant went to the business establishment and removed the articles, which were in a metal cage between the days mentioned in the charge and sold them to persons in the neighbourhood.
The victim, on realizing the articles were missing, reported the matter to the Port Kaituma Police Station.
An investigation was then carried out, and based on information received; the police were able to recover some of the stolen articles.
The defendant was later arrested and taken to the station where he admitted to the offence after the allegation was put to him.
Prosecutor Mansfield strongly objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the prevalence of the offence and the fact the defendant recently came out of prison for a similar offence.
The Magistrate after listening to the prosecutor submission remanded Robertson to prison. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on June 27 for statements.
