A 12-member mixed jury has been empanelled to begin hearing the case of the murder that was committed in 2010.
On trial is Stafford Harry called “Bilall” 40, of Hampshire, Corentyne, Berbice. He is accused of murdering Hansraj Samaroo, called “Buddy” or “Long Hair”, of 63 Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, Berbice. The crime is alleged to have been committed between March 27 and March 28, 2010.
He is on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds and a mixed jury.
After the jury was empanelled and the indictment read, the matter was adjourned to Monday.
Samaroo, a watermelon and fruits vendor in the New Amsterdam market, was reportedly killed by bandits following a home invasion.
State Prosecutor Tuanna Hardy is presenting the state’s case.
