National Cyclist Romello Crawford is doing Guyana proud overseas. Crawford is presently campaigning in the United States with success.
Crawford who has been in ripping form in Guyana was recently selected to represent the country in the Pan American U-23 cycling championship which was held in Argentina on the 5th and 6th May.
After participating in the Pan American games he decided to travel to the United States and compete in as many races as possible to gain more experience and improve his skills.
During the Memorial Day weekend cycling events in the USA, the Guyanese cyclists suffered mixed fortunes, in the USA (Tour of Sommerville) events. Success came in the lower and master’s category with Romello Crawford winning the Category 3, 4 Event on Saturday. Crawford who hails from Fyrish Cortland area on the Corentyne, Berbice returned to place 3rd in the category 2 / 3 Race at Sommerville on Sunday.
Competing in the same event was Stephano Husbands. In the master’s category, James Joseph finished in 2nd place on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday.
Crawford who recently received a Brand New Carbon Fibre Racing Bicycle from village and former national cycling champion Wilbert Benjamin did not gain much success in his participation in the Pan Am Games in the high altitude of Argentina. Reports are due to the cold and high altitude Crawford began bleeding through his nose and mouth and dropped out of the event with two laps to go.
