President David Granger has approved a request for a two-month extension of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the June 2008 Lindo Creek killings.
A release from the Commission said that with the two-month extension, all public hearings, interviews and public outreaches will close on May 15, 2018.
Submissions of memoranda and letters, and information from interested persons can be communicated to the Commission’s Secretariat, Department of Public Service, Ministry of the Presidency, located at Lot 146 Waterloo Street, Georgetown, no later than Tuesday May 15th, 2018.
The CoI commenced on February 1, with the Commission being given three months to complete its work. However, the Commission was allowed to make requests to extend its deadline.
The Commission has so far heard testimony from a number of relatives of the slain miners, as well as from several prominent individuals, including retired Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud and other senior ranks; political activist and columnist Frederick Kissoon, forensic pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh and attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes.
A number of army ranks, and some whom have retired, are also likely to testify.
