Relatives of a 56-year-old wholesale and retail vendor are worried sick and are desperate after the vendor left his home at Lot 41 Queenstown, Corriverton, Berbice and has not returned.
Missing is Saeed Hamid commonly called ‘Sayo’, a father of four, two of whom reside overseas. Another is on remand for murder and the youngest is in school.
Afraz Hamid, on Thursday April 19, last, said that his youngest brother contacted him and informed him that their father had not returned home. The vendor reportedly left home the day before. He reportedly told his youngest son who stays with him that he will be back before nightfall to prepare dinner as he usually would.
“He said daddy talked about going up Rosignol side (West Coast Berbice) the night prior and he will be back before night to prepare dinner so that my brother should have snacks before going to Lessons. I got the call from my brother around 9:00 PM and I immediately called my dad but his phone was off,” Afraz disclosed.
He stated that he called back his brother and tried to give him some sort of reassurance that their father was alright and must have made an impromptu stop at a friend or another relative since he is well known.
On April 20, Afraz said his youngest brother carried on with his normal routine and headed off to school but mentioned that he still had not heard from their father. “My brother came from school; he called and said daddy didn’t come home so I said to myself, this doesn’t sound like him. I work in Georgetown and so I left work and go up Corriverton.
“Up until Friday night, there was no clue on his well-being or whereabouts”. Afraz said the following day, he and his brother visited the Springlands Police Station and filed a missing persons report.
Kaieteur News has also learnt that Hamid had mentioned to friends that he might be heading to Parika, West Coast Demerara to ply his daily trade. It is unclear if he would have followed through with those plans.
His children have since confirmed that Hamid did not consume alcohol and has no history of mental illness.
Anyone with information that may lead to Saeed Hamid being found can make urgent contact with the nearest police station or his son Afraz Hamid on cell number 612-6598.
