This latest investment has given inspiration to others

DEAR EDITOR,
As a Guyanese citizen and someone who voted for change in the political landscape of this country, I am pleased to see in our local newspapers that we can once again pride ourselves as business owners in vulnerable areas where crime and criminal activity was the order of the day.
I refer to the Buxton/Friendship area where the Honourable First Lady Mrs. Sandra Granger declared open the Benjamin’s Bakery.
This is certainly a great step in a direction of restoring hope, pride and joy to an area, which was once ravished and stigmatized as a haven of notorious gangsterism and crime.
Guyanese young people and particularly those of the Buxton community can now feel a sense of pride and gratitude knowing that in their village investments will create employment.
It is noteworthy that the establishment of such a facility took stock of Education and is generously giving back to this community. It is also significant to note that the facility has expanded its service to hinterland locations and other regions of the country, thus enabling the company to fulfill its social and corporate responsibility.
When the PPP/C administration occupied the seat of governance, the Buxton/Friendship community was an area, which attracted a very heartrending stigma particularly to youths, especially after the infamous jail break and phantom gang back in 2002.
Even residents of Buxton were scared to engage in any form of entrepreneurial activity because of the stigma on both the area and its residents. Once it wasn’t drug related, it did not seem as enterprising or significant.
The achievement of this latest investment has given inspiration to others who will go down the same on the road to entrepreneurship. Therefore, the PPP/C’s theory that it is not feasible to invest in Guyana has been tangibly refuted.
