A portable asphalt plant with the capacity to supply asphalt for several roads per day has been established in the Blue Berry Hill/Christianburg area in the vicinity of Bucktown.
Road rehabilitation and related works in Linden and Region Ten are expected to benefit greatly from the asphalt plant which was recently established.
The portable plant is being operated by Associate Construction Services and is currently undergoing test runs. It is expected to be in full operation soon, management stated.
According to Peter Lewis, a Senior Executive of Associated Construction Services, the capacity of the plant is 160,000 tonnes of asphalt per hour.
Yesterday, a team of regional officials, including Regional Chairman Rennis Morian, Mayor Wanneka Arrindel, and Deputy Mayor Wainwright Bethune, visited the facility and spoke with Management on some of the benefits the plant is expected to bring to the community.
Lewis detailed for the visitors how the plant would positively impact road building.
“If you have four contractors who need 200 tonnes of asphalt each day, before one or two o’clock everybody could get their mix,” Lewis said.
He said that a previous plant could have only supplied one contractor with asphalt per day.
According to Lewis, the plant is environmentally safe as there are no emissions.
The initiative was applauded by the Regional Chairman, Mayor Wanneka Arrindel, and Deputy Mayor Wainwright Bethune.
Bethune, who is an environmentalist employed with Bosia said that he was very impressed with the project and the fact that there would be limited emissions.
As regards the plant layout, Bethune said, “I’m very impressed with the layout and the cleanliness of the area, which mirrors some of the structures that we have at Bosai.”
Bethune said that the location of the plant is a strategic one that allows for easy access to a ready supply of road building materials. He added that the initiative is a very good one that will propel infrastructural development in Region Ten.
Regional Chairman Rennis Morian in closing remarks said, “To all and sundry…Region Ten is open for business! Invest in Region Ten!”
