Yarrowkabra Primary HM and Students applaud Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis

In the words of the popular Tradewinds song, “Where Are Your Heroes”, the community of Yarrowkabra on the Linden Soesdyke Highway and particularly, the Yarrowkabra Primary School has recognised one of its own ‘Heroes’ for his outstanding exploits to date.
The multi talented Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis who leaves for the Commonwealth Games in Australia tomorrow was warmly welcomed and serenaded by the Headmistress and Students of the Yarrowkabra Primary School yesterday morning.
Lewis, the reigning Caribbean Light Welterweight Champion just ;last week returned from Tijuana, Mexico where he won a bronze medal and in the process qualified for the CAC Games to be held in Barranquilla, Colombia this July/August along with teammate Keeve Allicock who also won bronze in Mexico.
Yesterday, HM Marilyn Williams spoke glowingly of Lewis whom she said she has been following from his boyhood days and even when he attended the Dora Secondary School.
HM Williams even told the students that Lewis has boxing in his blood stream as he is the nephew of the Late Andrew ‘Six Heads’ Lewis a former World and Guyana champion.

”Lewis is on the move and we are so proud that he is a son of Yarrowkabra. We want to recognise and applaud you for your achievements to date. I know you have been an athlete and footballer and now you are a member of the Guyana Defence Force, so we congratulate you and wish well for the future.”
The 25 year-old Lewis in brief remarks to the attentive students and teachers, encouraged them to aim for the skies and never allow anyone to tell them they cannot achieve what they set their sights on.
”Be disciplined, be committed and work hard towards your goals. Be respectful of your teachers and be dedicated to your studies. In your sporting pursuits, be the best you can be.”
Also sharing brief remarks at the special assembly yesterday was Mr. Winston Benons, a USA based Soccer Coach who is also a resident of Yarrowkabra and Lewis’ football coach.
Benons recalled that ever since his early interaction with Lewis as a footballer he knew that that he was a special talent and was always a dedicated and disciplined player. He stated that it was therefore no surprise when he took on the challenge of turning to boxing in the Army and his subsequent achievements.
Benons encouraged the students to be disciplined, dedicated, show desire and most of all be respectful in everything they do in order to emulate Lewis whose mother, Denise David was also present at the event.
