Drivers as well as commuters of the Ituni/Kwakwani/Aroaima Road are pleading with the authorities to make better roads for them.
According to Quacy Bethune, one driver who plies the Kwakwani route, the roads are in dire need of repair. Bethune is pleading with the Regional Administration or the Government for assistance on behalf of the other road users.
“The road terrible, terrible. You can’t drive how you want to drive; you got to be driving at 30 and 40 KmH and going on your brakes too often. It is damaging our vehicles and every other day you got to buy brake pads.”
Bethune lamented that even if the Region grades the road it will be better. He claims that because of the condition of the road it is very dangerous because just two days ago a minibus driver and passengers were robbed on the trail to Kwakwani.
“There is no escape route because of the condition of the road, you can’t drive and de man go in a hole and as soon as he come out de man dem stick he up and he couldn’t do nothing because the road bad; he had no escape. We want de roads fix. They breaking up we vehicles man.”
Commander ‘E’ Division (Linden/Kwakwani) Superintendent, Anthony Vanderhyden when contacted said that he is not aware of the robbery incident taking place on the trail.
