The Massiah (NO71) Primary School showed that they are a class above the rest when they hammered their rivals in the two games played in the final stages to win the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) Inter Primary School 10 overs softball cricket competition. The semifinals and final were played recently at the Crabwood Creek ground.
The competition, which was sponsored by Davendra Ramgoolam of R and R Auto Rental Services of the Upper Corentyne, saw 10 teams taking part in the competition with the teams being divided into three zones.
In the final stages, Massiah, the winner of zone two, took on Skeldon Primary the winner of zone one and No 59 Primary the winner of Zones Three.
In the first encounter Massiah took on No 56 primary with Skeldon drawing the bye to the final.
No56 won the toss and asked Massiah to bat first and they made 60 -6 in their 10 overs with Lakeraj Ramlakhan 23(2×4) and Oudit Omapersaud 13.
Bowling for No56 Shawn Roberts and Ganesh Reece took two wickets each. No56 in reply had no answer to the Massiah bowling attack as they were skittled out for 10 in 4.4 overs.
Bowling for Massiah were Salim Khan and Lakeraj Ramlakhan with 3 each and Oudit Omapersaud and Sanjay Tellakram with 2 apiece.

In the final Massiah won the toss and asked Skeldon to bat fist and bundled them out for 14 in 6 overs.
The destroyers for Massiah were Tellakram with 4, while Ramlakhan and Omapersaud snared three apiece.
Massiah raced to 19 -0 in 1.5 overs ending the game with a six. Salim Khan was on 17(2×4, 1×6), Tomesha Hemraj on 2 at the end.
Massiah Primary thus winning the competition was presented with a $15,000 girt voucher, while Skeldon Primary received a $10,000 gift voucher. These will go to the players to purchase stationary and school supplies at a popular store on the Upper Corentyne. The winning and runner up trophies were also presented to the respective schools.
All the players were presented with exercise books, pencils and pens. The schools also received reading material, all compliments of Hilbert Foster CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club MS.
The competition was coordinated by chairman of the UCCA Competitions committee, former national wicketkeeper batsman Sydney Jackman. The other members of the committee are former Berbice player Chatterpaul Lionel and Narendranauth Balram.
