“I don’t know what kind of accident that was, but in the future don’t let it happen again.” Those were the words Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman to a father who is accused of pouring boiling water on his son’s leg before she dismissed the matter.
Campton Sealey, 49, of Lot 104 Mazaruni Street, Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and denied the charge which alleged that on November, 4, last, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on a 15-year-old child.
Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore, stated that on the day in question, the defendant instructed his son to make tea for his younger siblings. The court heard that the defendant then left the kitchen to answer a phone call.
Upon his returned to the kitchen, in an upset state, he threw the pot of boiling water on his son legs.
The matter was reported to the station and the defendant was arrested and charged for the offence.
The father when asked by the Magistrate why he burned his son replied, “It was an accident.”
The mother told the court that her son does not wish to proceed with the matter.
The victim who was clad in his school uniform was present in court with his mother.
