Essequibians are not generally known as the party types. The county, as a matter of fact, is often referred to as the Cinderella County. When it comes to Republic Day, however, there can be a totally different outlook on things.
Essequibians yesterday displayed that they can be more than a pretty little Cinderella, as they observed the 48th Republic Day 2018. The bright and colourful costumes lit up streets thus bringing life to this small and peaceful Town of Anna Regina.
As the parade wended its way to the Anna Regina Car Park, it was a scene to behold. Many persons were seen in various streets getting a first-hand look of the parade.
Guyanese from all walks of life marched along in a well-coordinated parade, jamming down to the beat of vibrant Guyanese soca music. The parade yesterday displayed seven creative floats.
The specially designed costumes created a unified atmosphere at the Anna Regina Car Park as many converged witnessing the spectacular designed costumes. Being more than just cloth and other materials pieced together, the floats all told a significant story about Republic 48.
Even more outstanding, was the Department of Education Float. The department had on display, a model of a tractor bearing a basket of fruits and fish. The significance is obvious. Region two has always been described as the bread basket Of Guyana and by extension the Caribbean. As the Tractor suggests, Region Two has always been as an agricultural Region, which continues to contribute to the Rice industry.
