Sorry, yet not sorry for Freddie Kissoon

Dear Editor,
I regard Freddie Kissoon as having one of the keenest minds in political analysis. I find his reasoning on any matter on politics, in or outside of Guyana, as first rate. Freddie also has half a century of social activism. With those credentials how can Freddie believe his activism could have brought the type of politicians we have in power today and they would have sought him out?
I am referring to words that he wrote in a letter I have just read in which he replied to Dr. Troy Thomas of Transparency International and the University of Guyana.
Freddie stated that, “I probably would have ended up in jail or die from starvation if UG didn’t save me so UG has a special place in my heart. Unfortunately despite my twenty six years of successive service to UG, the powers that be have never seen it fit to even have a conversation with me on UG much less ask me if there is any area in which I would be willing to contribute to UG’s continuing existence. That attitude hasn’t bothered me though I can bravely say I gave Khemraj Ramjattan a piece of my mind when we sat to talk for almost an hour in his office.”
I feel sorry that such a brilliant mind is not at UG after serving for so long and had his contract terminated. I am sure if a poll is taken tomorrow almost one hundred percent of the students would say that UG should have Freddie on the teaching staff. Freddie was well liked by students.
My mind is in doubt as to if I should feel sorry for this great son of the soil. Freddie Kissoon was one of the persons responsible for putting into government the very people who have treated him this way. I agree that he had to remove the PPP but he cannot escape blame that those he put in have no use for him just as the PPP did. I am not a PPP supporter. I voted for Ravi Dev in the past and the AFC.
In fact it was people like Freddie that caused me to vote for the AFC. But at the end of the day, he has to take responsibility for what the government is doing. Being the decent man that he is, I appreciate his consistent criticism of the government. I am fascinated yet amused at how he assesses the WPA.
I feel sorry for him because UG could have used should a great talent (the gentleman is a brilliant political evaluator) but I don’t feel sorry that he is aggrieved at how he has been derecognized though frankly knowing Freddie he wouldn’t care. That is what I like about him; he doesn’t care about what is said about him.
I wonder if at any time in his campaign for the APNU+AFC, he stopped to think that he was putting in an exchange and not a change. It is not only what is taking place at UG that Freddie should be mad about but the new government is proving to be no better than the PPP. I live in the United States and I was back last year with my son. We were stopped by a traffic cop who said that I went through amber. I did but it changed after we got green. That happens all over the world.
This policeman was rude. My son told him he would lodge a complaint, and he boldly told us to do whatever we wanted. We went to Brickdam station and the attitude was a replica of the cop that stopped us.
What changes to the police force the APNU+AFC brought in? It was these kinds of things that the PPP Government did not stop. I see the same thing now. I am a strong admirer of Freddie Kissoon. He is the conscience of the nation. But he is also responsible for the mess we are now in
