Rawle La Fleur, 24, who is well known to the police and had an arrest warrant out for him on an earlier charge of simple larceny, was captured and jailed for six months on another charge of larceny of animals.
He was charged with stealing three sheep from Lester Farley on Monday January 8, last, at Main Street Cumberland, East Canje.
La Fleur who gave a number of addresses including Lot 10, Public Road, Cumberland Village, Speculation Village and Adelphi Village, all East Canje, Berbice villages, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny of animals.
According to Prosecutor, Corporal Winston Poliah, around 20:30 hrs on the day in question, the police were on mobile patrol when they noticed La Fleur in a yard with three sheep tied together.
The man was approached and when questioned, he could give no reason how he came to be in possession of the animals. He was arrested and along with the sheep was taken into custody.
Farley a cane harvester and farmer had earlier loosed his animals. During the night, he did not see them return. He was subsequently called to the Reliance Police Station where he identified the animals as his.
La Fleur subsequently admitted to stealing the animals and pleaded guilty in court. He was sentenced to six months in jail. This sentence will run consecutively with the three months sentence imposed and caused him to be on the run.
