Dear Sir,
The residents of Phase 1, Republic Park have noted with great concern in recent months, the use of the lot at the corner of Wills and Jackson Streets by the Cevon Company to store the large container bins that are used for the collection of significant quantities of solid waste.
The concern stems from the continued movement, almost every day, of these trucks through streets that were not built to withstand regular use by large heavy vehicles. The truth of this statement can be easily verified by the clearly visible signs of the damage to the roads leading into Phase 1. Despite the best efforts of private persons and the Council to do remedial work there is a continuous problem with potholes which reappear after a week or two.
In addition to the damage to the roads, the container bins are sometimes left outside of the lot at the corner of the road where persons have to turn and they can be considered a hazard to drivers and pedestrians in the community.
Residents are also asking whether this is a legal operation in an area that was zoned for residential purposes.
The residents of Phase 1 and the NDC have had a long and collaborative relationship in the effort to keep the surroundings in this community safe and aesthetically pleasing. We therefore feel sure that you and the Council will take urgent action on this matter.
