DEAR EDITOR,
I read your newspaper’s recent interesting, analytical letter about the political situation in today’s Guyana. One statement brought back memories of irony.
In the 1960’s lead-up to the earnest wish for political leadership change, one ‘Burnhamite’ asked my husband, when he showed no active interest in such change, “Do you want a ‘……’ to continue to rule you”? Guyana voted a different man in. Same difference.
This says to me that race will always be Guyana’s ‘political pickle’. Why not choose a ‘dougla’ person? Preferably what, as children, we called a “boy-girl”?
Guyanese could not cope with Dr. Jagan, Mr. Burnham, Mr. Hoyte, Mrs. Jagan, Mr. Jagdeo, now seemingly Mr. Granger, and they got rid of the “white man”. Can they please state their choice NOW? My countrymen seem to be “race-centered”. Will “Mr/Mrs. Right” please stand up, come forward.
As a passionate B.G. 87-year old woman, I would like to see a political settlement or satisfactory ‘accommodation’ before I leave this world. I think we owe it to generations to come. Whether you know it or not, the whole world is in for seismic change within the next 10 years.
And may the Fates be with us.
Geralda D.

By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – Migration policy is a matter of sovereign control. Hard Truths by GHK Lall (Kaieteur News) – They say that it’s Bharrat Jagdeo. There is only one. Looks like him. Words read like him. Sounds like his speech pattern, though unheard, personally.
