Once again, the Muslim community in Guyana will be hosting prominent Sunni-Muslim Scholar,
His Eminence Shaykh Faisal Hamid Abdur Razak.
The scholar, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, will be in Guyana on Friday evening for a short visit.
His visit was made possible by the Al-Faisaliyyah Foundation in Guyana under the theme “Sacred Knowledge Retreat”.
The Islamic Scholar studied from 1977 to 1986 in Saudi Arabia, first at Umm al-Qurra University in Makkah, then at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. He also studied at York University, Toronto, Canada.
While in Saudi Arabia, in addition to University studies, he studied under many Scholars and Shaykhs, including Shaykh Hasan Ayub, Shaykh Muhammad al-Ghazali, Shaykh Muhammad Qutb, Shaykh Abdur-Rahman Barood, Shaykh Muhammad al-Wasfi, Shaykh Farooq al-Batal, Shaykh Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni, Shaykh Abdullah Nasih ‘Alwan, Shaykh Maw’il Ezziddin al-Samura’ee.
After completing his studies in Saudi Arabia in 1986, he returned to Canada where he became actively involved in Islamic Da‘wah and education.
He served as Imam/Khatib of several Masjids and Islamic Centres, including the Islamic Society of Peel, the Islamic Centre of Brampton, and the Toronto and Region Islamic Centre (TARIC).
Shaykh Faisal served on the Government of Canada Interfaith Committee, the Province of Ontario Multifaith Council, and the City of Brampton Multifaith Committee.
He is also the President of the Islamic Forum of Canada, Vice-President of the Islamic Council of Imams of Canada, and a member of the al-Shura Muslim Consultative Council.
Apart from lecturing on a wide range of topics to gatherings in Guyana, he has lectured in many other countries including Canada, U.S.A., England, Germany, Norway, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Turkey, Syria, Barbados, and Trinidad. He is also the Founder of the Al-Faisaliyyah Foundation in many countries of the world.
Shaykh Faisal received ijazas in many of the sacred Islamic sciences from several Scholars and Shaykhs. His most prominent ijazas come from the noble and remarkable scholar, his eminence al-‘Allamah Shaykh Muhammad Abul Huda ibn Ibrahim al-Yaqoubi al-Hasani, and his eminence Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Alawi al-Maliki al-Hasani.
The Eminent Scholar is expected to host two major training programmes for Imaams and his students.
Tomorrow, he will be at the Louisa Row Masjid from 10:00hrs -15:00hrs The following day, he will be at the Blairmont Masjid from 10:00hrs – 15:00hrs.
He will also be doing a number of private functions during his stay.
