Dear Editor,
MAYOR of Linden Carwyn Holland made an official statement to the media, condemning the October 4 visit of former President and Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo to the mining town. Fortunately, the Guyana Constitution has much to teach this inexperienced and unenlightened Mayor if he had bothered to read it. Article 148 of the Guyana Constitution clearly states “No person shall be deprived of his or her freedom of movement, that is to say, the right to move freely throughout Guyana….”
The last time I check LINDEN is GUYANA and Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo is Guyanese. He can visit Linden again and he will and shall be very welcomed irrespective of how upset Mr. Holland is. The Linden Mayor indeed has much to be worried about. Because of his poor management of the affairs of the township and the poor management of his PNC party of the national affairs, Mr. Jagdeo who was on his knees politically in 2015 is now a rock star in every village that he visits.
The astuteness of the ordinary voter proves that they are much more intelligent of these PNC political apologists like Mr. Holland. Unfortunately for the Mayor, the voters of Linden do have a comparator between this now PNC dominated Granger administration and the past PPP administration. For many of them, it is like comparing chalk to cheese on many fronts.
Firstly, the majority of voters are feeling less cash today in their pockets compared to the Jagdeo time and they are asking why? After all, these now confirmed corrupt PNCites claimed that Jagdeo clean up the Treasury, but yet the people felt much more cash in their pockets then than they feel now. Thus the more intelligent workingman all of a sudden have a craving for the Jagdeo era. Unfortunately for Mr. Holland and his acolytes, this sentiment is building in every single community across the country. This is not a dupe; this is the reality.
Secondly, this PNC dominated Granger regime promised the people of Linden in 2015 but to date have not delivered on any. Remember that TV station? Unlike today where Linden is a ghost town economically, Jagdeo invested billions every year to pump economic life into Region 10 and that is no joke. Those who feel it knows it and in their hearts, the people of Linden know who the better leader was.
Thirdly, Jagdeo has been turning up in PNC stronghold across the country at football matches and general “walkabouts”. On every occasion he turned up in 2017, he is swarmed by the people, they kiss him, they hug him and they beg him to run again to put the country back on the path of rapid growth. I know of one football match he went to in an African dominated village that was the sentiment offered by scores of fans. Can Granger or Nagamootoo try that in any village? Can they try it at a cricket match at Albion or a walkabout in Port Mourant? I was told people are prepared to spit on the ground as they walk past them for their dishonesty and deception on the issues.
But it is clear Mr. Holland is living in a bubble when he speaks of “greater socio-economic prosperity for the town and country at large”. Where and when Mr. Holland? Shall we lend you a microscope? It is now 2 ½ years, but yet your incompetents in the Granger cabinet are still blaming the PPP for the failure of this PNC dominated regime. Let me remind Mr. Holland that in 2009 when the whole world was collapsing, under Mr. Jagdeo, Guyana was growing at 5%. That is what you call executive talent; something that is clearly missing in this entire PNC dominated cabinet.
So calm down Mr. Holland, the die is being cast and the people from all villages are slowly making their mind up on this Granger gang and the verdict is slowly crystallizing into – “we have had enough of these political charlatans in the PNC, AFC, and WPA”. They will “wuk pun” them Granger geriatrics in 2020 just like how the people “wuk pun” Janet in an earlier time. Let us not play with the intelligence of the ordinary voter Mr. Holland; game up!
Albert Allen
