A man who was recently released from prison on a charge of attempting to commit a felony is now counting his lucky stars after he was shot twice by one of two armed men who he claimed to know from his community.
Thirty-two-year-old Jesse Knight, a fish vendor of Lot 154 Cooper Street, Albouystown, said that on September 17 around 24:00 hrs, he went to a shop which is located at James Street, to purchase some items for his shop.
The man said that while he was at the shop two men, one armed with a gun and one with a knife walked up to him and demanded that he hand over his jewellery, cellular phone and cash.
The injured man said that he put up a resistance which resulted in him being shot twice to his right leg. “When I start fight with them the one name ‘Grease’ shot me and ‘Froggy’ took away my turbo, cigarettes and two bubble gum.”
The man said that after he realised that he was shot he ran and the guys ran behind him discharging several more rounds behind him. “I manage to run to the Camp Street Prison and the soldiers and police there called a van to escort me to the Georgetown Public Hospital.”
Knight said that he was admitted at the GPHC where he underwent a surgery. The man added that he was incarcerated for three months on a charge of conspiring to commit a felony and was only granted bail last Friday at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Courts.
When asked why the men shot him he said “These young criminals don’t want to work hard. They see hard working people with their stuff and they want to rob and shoot them for it.”
