Dear Editor,
With regards to the APNU+AFC Government of President David Granger choosing to pay ANSA McAL for the provision of medical drugs even though the Procurement Law was broken (“Gov’t approves $515M ANSA McAL payment for a deal that broke procurement law”, 15 September 2017) it is clear that ANSA McAL knew that the contracts were not put out to tendering in a competitive bidding process and saw a way to make a quick buck.
Clearly, the government erred in paying for these medical supplies that broke procurement law. Yet, where is SOCU and SARA when they are needed to investigate corruption at the highest level? Probably still pursuing Anil Nandlall Law Reports? What about Volda Lawrence saying at one time that she fast-tracked the medical supplies then back-tracking on her comment? Clearly she knew that something was wrong hence she distanced herself from the contracts that broke procurement law. This is akin to throwing Allan Johnson under a proverbial bus.
