The Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) and the police are investigating the alleged burning of a five-year-old boy by his grandmother. The incident occurred on Tuesday at Sophia.
Kaieteur News was informed that social workers from the CCPA received information that the child was burnt to the back with hot water by his grandmother.
However, when they went to the scene to investigate, the child’s grandmother claimed that she was going to pour hot water on rats when the little boy ran in front of her and got injured. However residents in the area said that the act might have been intentional.
The little boy and his three-year-old brother were placed in the care of an aunt (foster parent) after it was discovered that their mother was not in a position to take care of them. The grandmother lives with the aunt and reports are that she takes care of the two boys.
At the time of the incident, the children’s foster mother was not around. Two social workers took the child to the hospital yesterday for treatment.
