The construction of these parking facilities will form part of the $159.4 billion which was approved for the ministry in this year’s budget.
It was reported by the Housing Ministry that the establishment of parking facilities is intended to provide a designated space for heavy-duty vehicles, while addressing the growing issue of trucks parking along public roadways.
The ministry had noted that with Guyana’s growing economy driving a surge in construction activity, the number of large trucks operating across the country has increased significantly. The new facilities are therefore designed to enhance road safety, reduce congestion, and prevent damage caused by trucks and other large vehicles parking along road shoulders and within residential corridors.
Additionally, upon completion, the ministry noted that it will engage truck owners and operators who are interested in utilizing the facilities, particularly those without suitable private parking spaces.
In addition to these new areas, the ministry through its CH&PA team is currently constructing parking facilities at Golden Grove on the East Bank of Demerara, and at Meten Meer Zorg in Region Three.
