Govt, Global Network join forces to host crucial climate change workshop

The effects of climate change have already taken a toll on crucial areas of Guyana’s economy. These range from the agricultural sector to the areas of infrastructure and public health.
With this in mind, the Government recently joined forces with the National Adaption Plan Global Network in an effort to raise awareness about the grave threat climate change poses to Guyana’s future.
The workshop, which was facilitated at the Cara Lodge Hotel, provided journalists with an understanding of the stresses to the country’s economy, jobs and infrastructure.
An insight was provided on how the Government is planning for those impacts through its National Adaptation Plan (NAP). Presenters also supplied journalists with updates on the status of international climate change negotiations.
The presenters included officials from the Office of Climate Change and Executive Director of the Trade and Investment Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rawle Lucas.
Lucas’s presentation focused on the Paris Climate Change Agreement which made historic strides in ensuring global action to limit climate change, and adapt to the changes already underway.
His session also highlighted the state-of-play of the climate talks today, and key challenges ahead in the negotiations.
