Dear Editor,
The treatment of young Nicholas Pooran by the West Indies selectors is shocking. Pooran is described by Ian Bishop as a player of awesome talent. A.B. De Villiers, one of the top batsmen in the world, was also tremendously impressed with the young man when, at last year’s CPL tournament, he performed outstandingly.
De Villiers expressed concerns about his future in West Indies cricket. The South African star player had obviously heard rumours about the treatment of certain players by Cricket West Indies. The T20 team to play India was selected two days ago but Pooran’s name was nowhere to be found.
Instead we have retreads like Chris Gayle, and for the umpteenth time, Marlon Samuels, still being selected. And how many opportunities do Chad Walton and Evin Lewis deserve? Things continue to go from bad to worse in our cricket.
Meanwhile Darren Bravo continues to be punished for a seemingly harmless tweet. His batting is sorely needed in a weak batting lineup. The worst part in all of this is how complacent the Caribbean media seems to be to it all. Exactly in what direction is our cricket heading?
