Dear Editor,
There is a song by one of the Jamaican artistes that runs like this, and I have substituted boy for girl “Pretty boy with bad character” this sums up the essence of the robbery that nearly was at the Water Street Branch of The Republic Bank. Following the news on print and electronic media as well as on social media, most of the readers seem to be obsessed with the fact that one of the bandits was a “handsome” university graduate, and as such felt sorry for the guy. They keep repeating this over and over again as the central theme. Barring the scruffy hard knocks involved in the heist they seemed transfixed with the “handsome graduate.” How sorry are they that he is in this sordid affair. Well, they are so wrong!
Most of those sympathizers are missing something really important here; thieves, bandits, criminals, what have you, do not go with looks, rather it goes with ones character, what is concealed within far secluded from our natural view. If someone is a criminal no matter how “good looking” he or she might appear to the public’s eye; the point is you are a criminal, period end of discussion! The case in review begs the question why was the agronomist there? That kind of activity has nothing to do with the science for which he was trained, so what was he doing there? The answer comes back “to thief.” And probably history might have been created that day with billions being lost had it been successful. So, let me simplify it for my readers, what agronomic practices was he carrying out at a bank with a gun in hand?
Now, putting things together, this guy might very well have been the “mastermind” or “intellectual author” behind the whole affair, because everything in that set up was carefully planned and meticulously executed with razor sharp precision. No ordinary fool could put together such a plan. The only problem with that is “masterminds” and bandits do not always cater for the planned precision response of the victims or the eventualities in such a situation.
The point I am making coincides with the old Guyanese proverb “bucket guh a well one day he bottom muss fall aff.” Their bucket bottom did fell off because The Professional Guard Service was indeed professional and got down to business in flushing out the bandits before they had the opportunity to pull off a major bank robbery. Thank you Professional Guard Service.
In the past, there were numerous instances of persons being robbed of their hard earned cash soon after leaving that very same city bank. Folks might have shrugged it off as another of those brazen bandits at it again. But if you really trace the history that group of persons was really involved. How did the bandit become aware of persons’ withdrawals and their subsequent movements? The criminals aren’t clairvoyant?
It is all becoming clear that this gang or network of individuals were behind those robberies. Mastermind agronomist, Bank employee, with knowledge of persons’ business transactions, even getaway car owner who “claims” his car was hijacked, all are involved. There is no question in my mind this was going on for some time now, with the quartet up until now, when they’ve decided to go big. Guyana is not new to this kind of criminal activity, the only difference this time is a handsome graduate who was caught up in the action.
