Guyana’s only choice is to take it or leave it
Dear Editor,
All the talk about unfairness with regard to the Exxon deal is just the same verbal diarrhea that caused the plywood and cardboard companies to pack up and leave. Moreover, you don’t see companies trampling over each other to replace them. Why, Guyanese has one choice – take it or leave it because Guyana is a “small” country.
There is risk and reward when investing. For this reason, Guyana is a huge risk and the reward is built into the deal. Perhaps in the distant future it may become a Brunei. For the time being it should take an advance from Exxon to really fix the electricity challenges.
Then build the biggest jail on one of the thousand islands in the Essequibo. Next, give every citizen 1000 shares in a special purpose entity that controls all oil and gas subsidiaries resulting from the Exxon deal. This is inexpensive because there are approximately 400,000 Guyanese 18 years and older. Besides, you would not have to talk about Pradoville ever.
