A contractor was yesterday order to post $100,000 bail after he made an appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Hardeo Suraj, 40, of Lot 317 Block 8 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, denied the charge which read that between March 21 and April 19, last, at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he was entrusted by Michelle King with four Guyana Bank of Trading cheques worth $900,000.
The money was for him to build a floor. Instead, he encashed the said cheques and fraudulently converted the money to his own use and benefit.
Suraj was represented by attorney Patrice Henry who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.
Police Prosecutor Gittens had no objection to bail being granted but asked that it be substantial.
The magistrate then granted bail in the sum of $100,000. The father of one will make his next court appearance on July 21.
