Forty-five-year-old, Roderick Gillette, of Campbellville, yesterday made an appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of intent to commit murder.
Gillette was not allowed to plead. The charge read that on June 22 at Campbellville, with the intent to commit murder he wounded Mortimer John.
Police Prosecutor Gittens objected to bail citing to the fact that John has life threatening injuries.
The magistrate told the court that the victim is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Gillette when given a chance to address the court stated that on the day in question the victim went to his home and approached him with a cutlass and the two got into a scuffle.
He told the court that after the incident he took the cutlass to the station and that is when he was arrested.
Gillette was then remanded to prison and he will make his next court appearance on July 24.
Meanwhile in the same court Carlyle Robertson, 29, of Lot 248 Oronoque Street Queenstown, was granted bail in the sum of $70,000 by magistrate Daly after he denied the charge which alleged that on December 28 at Reagent Street Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Jason Leacock.
The father of one was represented by attorney Adrian Thompson who in his application to secure bail for his client, told the court that his client is the proprietor of a wash bay and on the day in question the virtual complainant was doing some work for his client when an argument ensued and the two got into a scuffle.
The lawyer told the court that his client is not a flight risk. The defendant will make his next court appearance on July 14.
