We disagree with the Minister on mining syndicate’s rights

Allow me to comment on the article titled ‘Mining Syndicates vow to continue protests for land…’ dated Thursday June 1, 2017. In this article Minister Trotman ‘explained that syndicated mining was not catered for in Guyana’s laws but through an initiative from his junior minister, Simona Broomes, the idea was given the go ahead.”
The Minister is quoted as saying ‘The laws themselves do not cater for syndicates. It is a good initiative but the law caters for small scale individual miners, medium and the very large scale.” We acknowledge that the Minister is a lawyer however we believe the laws caters for syndicates. We have attached a copy of the law concerning prospecting permits so the people of Guyana can see for themselves.
We cannot assume that Minister Trotman does not know the regulations so we can only conclude that the Minister is trying to distance himself from the syndicates. We wonder if that is the real reason for the slothfulness in the processing of syndicate applications and the refusal to issue them mining lands.
