Forty-seven year-old North Ruimveldt resident Clayson Clementson was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court by City Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Clementson is accused of attempting to murder Andre Phillips, with whom he allegedly had a heated argument with last year.
The preliminary inquiry into the offence concluded yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Magistrate Latchman ruled that after revision of the evidence led by Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt, the court was of the opinion that a prima facie case had been established against the accused.
Prosecutor Hunt told the court that the prosecution relied on the evidence given to the court by the witnesses, which was sufficient to build a strong case against the accused.
It was reported that on October 31, at Lodge, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Phillips with the intent to murder him.
Clementson and Phillips were reportedly arguing when a scuffle ensued between the two. Clementson, who had a knife, allegedly stabbed Phillips.
Clementson will stand trial at the next practical sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
