Dear Editor,
Recent articles have dealt with the issue of excavators etc. not being registered and GRA losing over a billion dollars because of this. This is ridiculous. To register heavy duty equipment costs less than $3000 I think – how can this amount to billions? Do we have hundreds of thousands of this equipment? It cannot escape attention that recently most of these types of articles are attacks on the mining industry. In mining, an excavator is purchased and is taken into the interior where it is used, and the general life of this equipment is four / five years.
What is this big issue with registration? What is next on the cards – Road service license for excavators? Mining already has more than its fair share of stress and troubles. Doesn’t the GRA have anything better to do with its time? Miners are not a bunch of people that make fast, easy money. In fact the fastest way to lose your life savings and become a pauper is to invest in mining. Why is it over drinks or in drunken state do “the big ones” resurrect these policies that only serve to kill mining. From the look of it – mission accomplished.
