May 17, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
It is with great annoyance and frustration that I pen this letter to you. For the past term and two weeks the teachers at J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School, Corentyne, Berbice have been experiencing verbal abuse among other things from certain quarters.
This is creating havoc and causing animosity among teachers at this school. Verbally abusive to female teachers and parents as well have taken place. This is the third week of the school term, and to date the students of the Natural Science courses have not received their report booklets.
The teachers have all met the deadline. Jainarine Singh was given a letter by the Deputy Head Mistress (ag) on the last day of last term for failing to meet the deadline, he then tore the letter into pieces in front of the DHM (ag) and told her to write it in the report.
Jainarine Singh has no respect for authority. His attitude at work is becoming overbearing and is causing the teachers and students to become uncomfortable and this should not be.
A certain individual in February 2017 has since taken up two class room spaces to create an office for himself. The two classes are now housed in one building which is already filled to capacity making it very difficult for teachers to deliver the curriculum or to function effectively since the noise level is extremely high. Students are unable to hear the teacher visa versa. The creation of this office was done without the consent of senior staff members.
Mr Editor, reports were made via the Deputy Head Mistress to the Department of Education, New Amsterdam and nothing has been done about it, so we would be very grateful if the relevant authorities can look into the matter with great urgency so that the environment can be conducive for work, and teachers would be able to deliver the curriculum effectively. We are strongly recommending that a teacher be removed from the school or the education system, since his attitude is not fitting for the working environment.
Thank you very much for publishing our concerns and we are looking forward to a quick response by the Ministry of Education. Mr Editor we can provide our names but would be very pleased if you can withhold same since we are scared of being victimized.
