Residents from the Grove/Diamond areas and their immediate surroundings were able to voice their concerns to the Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings, when she visited last Sunday.
This visit was made as Government Ministers continue to take a hands-on approach towards problem solving, and strategically advancing the national development initiative countrywide.
Some of the issues raised revolved around youth development and empowerment, infrastructure development, public health access and delivery, education, agriculture, land allocation and developments, as well as, security, a government statement said.
“Minister Cummings promised the residents that she would have their issues address by their respective authorities.
Highlighting the need for the visit undertaken, Minister Cummings said: “It is very important that we as politicians meet the people as often as we can, to hear some of the issues they have to grapple with. Meetings like these also provide a human touch that goes a long way with residents when they can engage political leaders on their own turf.
“So, it is indeed a pleasure for me to be able to come out and meet the people and engage them in forums like these,” Minister Cummings said.
Minister Cummings was accompanied by the Region Four Executive Officer, Ms. Pauline Lucas; Chairman, Grove Neighbourhood Democratic Council, Mr. Bharat Naraine, District Community Development Officer, Mr. Dereck Boya, and Councilor, Mr. Eric Francois.
The Grove/Diamond housing schemes, East Bank Demerara are considered one of the largest in the country, but is saddled with major issues including crime, congestion, potholes and narrow streets.
