CH&PA seeking more support for Housing Expo 2017

The government is seeking increased support from corporate Guyana, not only to partner with the agency, but to showcase their products and services.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) attached to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Jenelle Carter, during a press briefing at the agency’s Brickdam location, yesterday, explained that a housing exposition will be used as a platform for skilled persons. The housing exposition would be held at Perseverance, East Bank Demerara.
The involvement of corporate Guyana will enable landscapers and furniture makers among others, and companies to showcase their products and services.
“One of the concepts we are bringing to this expo is giving persons the opportunity to see what their homes would look like fully furnished, so we have companies on board like Kissoon’s who would furnish an entire home.
“When you walk into a house, you wouldn’t just be seeing an empty house. You will see what your bedroom would look like, your kitchen would look like, so that is why we are calling for more companies to come on board,” Carter noted.
According to the PRO, 20 booths have already been secured and others are welcomed to join. She noted that the agency will also have a booth that will help to inform persons about the construction of the houses and provide further information. Carter said that the CH&PA does more than provide lands and homes. The agency also hopes to foster cohesion, empower residents and build sustainable communities. She added that the expo is also designed as a well rounded event for families and children since they have created separate areas to entertain those who will attend the expo.
The building expo will be open to the public from May 26 under the theme “Housing Solutions 2017 and Beyond Exhibition.”
Last month, during the official launch of the Ministry of Communities’ Housing Solutions 2017 and beyond programme, Minister within the Ministry of Communities Valerie Adams-Patterson said that the programme will bring resolution to those persons who form the huge backlog of applications at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA). Some of them applied for their house lots since 1994.
“It is painful to sit and hear the stories of some of our people as they visit my office, as I go out to consultation and meet people. It is sad to look into their eyes and to have them say ‘We do not have house lots,’” the minister added.
She noted that it is the view of the government to provide all Guyanese the right to adequate housing and affordable housing.
