The lifeless body of a Linden man was on Saturday fished out of the Cuyuni-Mazaruni River at Kaburi, after the boat in which he and three others were travelling in capsized.
Dead is thirty-five-year-old Orson Gishard of Waterlilly Road, Wismar Linden.
Commander of ‘F’ Division Ravindradat Budhram confirmed that Gishard’s body was fished out of the Cuyuni-Mazaruni River sometime around 18:30hrs on Saturday.
According to information received from the dead man’s sister, LaToya Gishard, her brother only started working as a serviceman for the Ingrid and Brian Chase Mining Company and trucking service about two months ago.
The woman said that she was at home around 11:00hrs on Saturday, when someone from the Mining Company informed her by phone that her brother was involved in a boat accident.
“When the woman called my father answered the phone. I don’t know what she told him, but he handed the phone to me and the woman said that my brother was involved in a boat accident and that she cannot disclose much information over the phone.”
The woman instructed the family to visit one of the company branches, which is located in Craig, East Bank Demerara.
The sister said that she, along with her uncle, visited the branch at Craig, East Bank Demerara and they were informed that the boat in which her brother was travelling, capsized.
They were informed that her bother and others were making their way back to camp when the boat they were in encountered difficulties and capsized.
The other occupants of the boat managed to swim to safety but Gishard, a father of four, could not be located. There were reports that he may have hit his head when the boat capsized.
The other passengers searched for her sibling, but were unable to locate him due to the rough water.
The woman said that someone eventually called the family around 18:00hrs and informed them that the body was retrieved.
She said the body is at the Memorial Gardens funeral home awaiting post mortem.
