– Crane man in custody
Police in B Division on Wednesday evening intercepted a stolen car during a road block
in Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice.
Commander of B Division, Ian Amsterdam told reporters that the driver of the car was filling up gas at the Guyoil Gas Station at Seawell, Corentyne, around 6 pm, when a man inquired if he was heading to New Amsterdam, the driver of the car told him that he was not, after which the individual then asked if he was heading to Canje, and the driver answered in the positive. He then boarded the vehicle.
The Commander related that during the journey to Canje, the passenger whipped out a knife and ordered the driver out of the vehicle, after which, the perpetrator made good his escape with the black Toyota Fielder wagon.
The owner immediately made a report to the police and road blocks were set up at various locations in the district.
Shortly after 9pm, police intercepted the car at Fort Wellington and placed the suspect, who was at the time driving the car, under arrest.
According to the Commander, the suspect resides in Crane, West Coast Demerara.
