Two referee/judges affiliated to the Guyana Boxing Association will be in St Lucia this weekend
to officiate in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Championships. Richard Braithwaite and Ramona Agard are expected in St Lucia tomorrow to participate in the tournament which has attracted boxers from over six countries.
The championships will run from April 27 to 29. Both Agard and Braithwaite received their AIBA One Star certificates recently. President of the GBA Steve Ninvalle disclosed that the trip to St Lucia will assist in sharpening skills in time for the Caribbean School Boys and Juniors competition scheduled for early next month in Guyana.
A total of ten countries have expressed interest of participation in the Juniors tournament which kicks off on May 12 and concludes two days later. So far Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago have registered teams with St Lucia promising to do so shortly.
Last year April, Guyana hosted the first ever schoolboys competition in the region after Caribbean administrators appealed for more emphasis to be placed on the sport’s nursery.
