Dear Editor,
For long we have seen the rule of two major political parties in Guyana’s history, that has segregated and separated the people of this nation and torn this country apart, ever since Independence, because of the elected politicians we’ve put to manage the affairs of our beloved country. I’m only 26 years of age. I haven’t been around during the Burnham/Hoyte or Jagan era but I have heard a lot of about those past leaders good and bad and in my best opinion they all have failed the people of this nation because they lack the vision or ideas to propel Guyana forward.
A country with less than a million people. I’ve lived under the rule of the PPP regime and there was nothing beneficial for the youths or for the people of this nation that I could shout loudly about today. Everything is about the PNC and the PPP. We need to bury these two political parties. That’s one of our problems impeding social cohesion in this country and until the older folks – 35 and over – stop voting race and start voting issues, only then will we reach somewhere.
The Guyanese people mostly the youths are sick and disgusted with the rule of these two parties that have been in power for over 50 years and have done nothing much to develop or improve the way of life for the people of Guyana. We need fresh faces with no political affiliation or political baggage, people that understand the plight of the ordinary man/woman, and know the struggle of the poor and powerless in our country. Not just anyone within the civil society, but someone with an idea or a vision to make Guyana a prosperous nation.
There’s no other candidate that I see fit and suitable – that understands the plight of the poor and powerless in this country and is a visionary man – other than Mr. Frederick Kissoon. A man that I have never met in person but have observed and formed my own opinion, based on his daily column. I see him as a man of good judgement that has been very vocal and active in his journalism and has stood up for inequality and injustice; he is in tune with the everyday reality of what is going on in our country.
We need leaders that have a vision or a plan to transform this country and could leave a legacy for the youths of this nation. I know Mr. Kissoon doesn’t want to go against his own philosophical belief of being a politician and the rage of power that consumes leaders, but I know the patriotic person he his; he would do it for the love of his country and to make Guyana a better place for all Guyanese. We need fresh faces on the political scene. Another great man I would love to see collaborating with Mr. Kissoon and leading a third party in 2020 is Mr. Nigel Hughes. No one affiliated with PPP or PNC with the psyche of yesteryear can drive this country forward. They will drive this beautiful country 500 years more behind time. The people of this country need to see modern minds take this country forward.
