What was supposed to be a normal visit to her husband at the Georgetown Prison turned out to be an investigation by prison officers, who saw a woman taking a bag out from her under garment and tossing it in a corner of the
visiting area at the prison.
Parviena Kissoon was yesterday remanded to prison after being slapped with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge.
Kissoon, 35, of Lot 124 Laing Avenue West Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the allegation which stated that she on April 19, last, at the Georgetown Prison, had in her possession 278 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Facts presented by police prosecutor Simone Payne stated that on the day in question the defendant went to the Georgetown prison to visit and take lunch to her husband, Kevin King.
The court heard that after the woman gave him a meal, she upon entering the visiting area at the prison was seen by an officer placing her hand under her skirt and quickly removing a black bag which she then threw into a corner of the room.
She was then approached by the officer who retrieved the bag and on investigating found a plastic bag containing three parcels which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems wrapped in brown scotch tape.
The officer then notified his superior and was instructed to report the matter to the Alberttown Police Station.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant based on the serious nature of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
The mother of two was remanded to prison and ordered to make her next court appearance on May 12.
