It may be regarded as Guyana’s top shopping center with loads of bargains, but this weekend, the
Giftland Shopping Mall will be transformed into a war zone when boxers as well as MMA fighters, local and international, take to the ring in pursuit of top fiscal accolades.
Yes, officials of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) has taken the sport to a higher level and those patrons attending the card, dubbed ‘Locked and Loaded’ can be assured of a satisfying night of fistic fury and entertainment when the gong sounds this Sunday 23rd at the Liliendaal ECD venue. The boxing aspect of the card features several local pugilists matching gloves against each other and will be highlighted with a potentially thrilling 10 rounder where former CABOFE bantamweight champion, Dexter ‘The Kid’ Marques pits his skills against Venezuelan, Luis Alberto Requena in a 10 rounds flyweight scrap.
The other bout s a catchweight 4 rounder between Anson Green and Charwin Estwick, while Imran Khan and Keeve Allicock will duke it out in a 6 rounds lightweight match. The main supporting bout will be a super/middleweight 6 rounds encounter between Edmond DeClou and Winston Pompey.
The 2 WBC amateur bouts will have bantamweight Rewinne David up against Akeela Lamazon over 4 rounds and a 3 rounds jnr/welterweight clash between Kelon Isaacs and Euel Augustin. Fans are also in for a special treat when, for the first time in local boxing history several MMA fighters add to the excitement.
Trinidadian, Martin Joseph will match skills with Emerson Hurley (BDS) in the light/heavyweight division, while Guyanese, Lawrence Hearwood tackles Keron Bourne in a light/heavyweight matchup.
Those are the two professional MMA Bouts that will be supported by 5 amateur encounters including the light/heavyweight bout between Lashawn Sladden (TRI) and Kwanza Thompson (GUY), the lightweight shindig between Erland Maloney (TRI) and Isaiah Cave (GUY).
The other fights in this category are the lightweight bout between Ahmad Khan (TRI) and Kereem Simon (GUY), the heavyweight match between two Guyanese, Colwyn Benn and Ryan Beaton and the flyweight encounter between Gershom Griffith (TRI) and Ray Gill (GUY).
With less than 48hrs to bell time the respective fighters are putting the finishing touches to their preparations even as the fight pundits get ready for a card that will not only be locked but loaded to the hilt.
