A man who has been described as a nuisance by the authorities has been committed to stand trial in the next sitting of the Berbice Criminal court on a charge of attempted murder.
Michael Embrack, called “Duckman” or “+Mike,” 31, of Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, was on trial before Magistrate Alex Moore in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court. He is accused of on Wednesday July 29, 2015, at Lot 54 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, unlawfully and maliciously wounding Gordon Gomes called “Redman” with intent to commit murder.
Embrack who was in the company of two others allegedly had in his possession one Smith and Wesson .40 Pistol, and six live rounds.
On the day in question, Embrack and two others entered the dwelling place of Gomes.
According to the prosecution, Gomes lived with his wife, Janice La Rose, and two daughters, Kyrandra Gomes and Kacya Gomes, in a one-flat concrete house a short distance from the Coast Guard base in Stanleytown, New Amsterdam
The family was at home when the house was invaded by three masked men, one of whom was Embrack. The Intruders attacked and held the household at gunpoint while demanding money and jewelry.
Gordon Gomes who was in another part of the house, observed what was happening and started to shout for thief, alerting the Coast Guards.
Embrack dealt him a chop to the left side of his head then put his gun at Gomes and pulled the trigger. However the gun snapped.
Upon seeing that, two of the bandits ran out of the house and made good their escape.
One of the children also ran out of the house towards the Coast Guard base and informed the ranks of what was happening. Embrack , while running down the stairway was pelted with a cutlass, which hit him on his right foot, causing him to fall to the ground. By then some members of the Coast Guard had arrived and managed to arrest him. He was found with the gun and ammunition.
Embrack was freed of the charges of robbery under arms and possession of arms and ammunition.
