Eon Worrell, a 25-year-old bus conductor was on Wednesday remanded to prison after he was
accused of robbing a man with a cutlass.
Worrell, of Lot 277 South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, was arraigned before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he denied the charge which alleged that on April 3, at the Kitty Seawall, Georgetown, while being armed with a cutlass, he robbed Jeremy Sobers of an Iphone 6.
Worrell was represented by Attorney-at-Law, Leslie Benjamin, who in an effort to secure bail for her client told the court that her client was pointed out by the Virtual Complainant at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) while he was in the company of his aunt.
The attorney further stated that her client was not given the opportunity to give the police a statement.
The court also heard that the defendant had a similar matter dismissed against him last year.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne did not disclose any facts about what transpired on the day in question. However the prosecutor objected to bail for the defendant citing the seriousness, the nature and gravity of the charge and the penalty it attracts.
Worrell will make his next court appearance on April 19.
